A man suffered a suspected fracture to the head in a violent assault at a taxi rank in Redhill town centre.

Police were called to the taxi rank outside Roadrunners in Station Road just before 11.20pm last Friday (March 14).

They found two men injured and arrested another man on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

The victim who had suffered a head injury, a man aged in his late 30s, was taken to East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, for treatment.

The other victim, also a man in his late 30s, had suffered minor injuries, but did not need hospital treatment.

Appealing for witnesses, investigating officer PC Paul Overton, said: “Many people would have been in this area of Redhill at the time of the assault, and I would urge anyone who saw the incident, or the events surrounding it, to contact officers with information.”

The arrested man, aged in his 20s, was still in police custody as Life went to press.

A Surrey Police spokeswoman said officers were making a number of enquiries in the area and checking CCTV footage.
