The man who died after a shotgun was fired at a gun store in Reigate last week has been formally identified.
Surrey Police named the man who died on Tuesday, February 11, as Michael Joseph Belford, 76.
A Surrey Police spokeswoman said Mr Belford, who was living at an address in Redhill, had visited John Powell Gun Makers in Church Street just after 9am. She said: “At 9.40am, officers were called to the scene after a report that a gun had been discharged at the location, and Mr Belford was declared dead at the scene.”
She said: “The incident was passed to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) due to recent contact Mr Belford had with Surrey Police. “The IPCC made a decision to refer the case back to the Force to investigate locally.”
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Antony Archibald, said: "Detectives carried out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr Belford's death, and we now believe there was no third party involvement or suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
