Bosses at Sutton and East Surrey Water have apologised to residents in Reigate after a major strategic main burst and flooded 13 homes.

The burst main in Gatton Park Road at around 6am yesterday sent water flooding into homes in Northmead Road, off Colesmead Road.

Surrounding properties temporarily lost their water supply. Gatton Park Road was closed to through traffic from Monson Road to Carlton Road.

The 20in - or 500mm - main was isolated and supplies were restored by 10am.

Ian Adams, Sutton and East Surrey Water’s operations manager (Contracts), visited all of the flooded homes to offer advice and support. Sutton and East Surrey Water has brought in a specialist company to help clean up affected properties, and a loss adjustor has also been on site.

Mr Adams said: “We would like to offer our sincere apologies to all those who have been affected by this major burst.

“We are doing all we can to offer support and advice. We would ask anyone in need of assistance to get in touch with the company.”
