Redhill boxer Ben Davies has said he is preparing for the fight of his life next month.

For the 24-year-old mechanic will be climbing into the ring to challenge for the Queensbury Boxing League’s Middleweight title.

Davies will take on reigning champion Tom Dolan at the Effingham Park Hotel in Copthorne at the first big event of the 2014 season.

And the East Surrey challenger is confident he can beat the champion and bring the belt back to Redhill.

Davies was last in action in October when he returned to the competition after enjoying a successful stint in the amateur ranks, and produced a solid performance to beat veteran Mark Shrubb.

However, Dolan promises to be a tough test for him, having only ever tasted defeat once in the competition.

Davies said: “All I’ve been thinking about over the run-up to Christmas is knocking Dolan out when we meet on February 8, and I’m training incredibly hard to do just that.”

He said: “I was happy with my performance last time out beating Shrubb, but I’m looking at putting on a massive performance in this fight, and it would be great to be the first champion to come out of the White Dogs gym in Redhill.”

He continued: “ Training-wise, I’ve been putting the work in over Christmas, but now it's really time to step things up and start going that extra mile, because all I can think about is getting my hands on that belt, and this really will be the biggest fight of my life.”

Champion Dolan has risen steadily up the competition's rankings after several impressive displays, but Davies believes his fans will give him an edge on fight-night that will be hard to beat.

“ I’ve got the best fans in the league, and they always turn out in force to support me whenever I compete,” he said.

“So, hopefully, they will all get together for this one and make as much noise as possible, which is going to give me that extra edge on the night to win this fight.”

Davies' title shot will feature on the undercard on the league’s New Dawn promotion at the Effingham Park Hotel.
