Police hunt Copthorne burglars
9:00am Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
Police are hunting a gang of burglars who got into two homes in Copthorne in daylight raids.
The intruders, believed to have been at least three in number and dressed in scarves and balaclavas, entered a home in the Domewood area at about noon on Monday, October 7.
Once inside, they shouted out to the occupant, and then quickly fled.
A second home nearby had been also been entered at around the same time.
Police officers were quickly on the scene and carried out a search of the area, but did not find the gang.
Detectives from East Surrey CID are appealing for information.
A Surrey Police spokesman said: “At this stage in the investigation, enquiries are still being made to establish if anything was stolen during either break-in, but none of the occupants were threatened or injured.”
Investigating officer Detective Constable Tracey Brocklesby, said: "This was clearly a well-planned and organised offence which occurred during daylight hours, therefore I believe someone, somewhere, must have seen something which connects to the burglaries.”
She said: "I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the days and weeks leading up to the offences, in particular, I would like information on a dark-coloured saloon car which was seen near both addresses around the time of the offences.
"A thorough investigation is being carried out by detectives into who is responsible for these burglaries, and we are doing all we can to bring the offenders to justice.”
Det Con Brocklesby added: "I want to reassure the public that crime in this area remains low, but if you are a local resident and would like crime prevention advice, please contact the Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Team, who can provide this.
"If you have any information which you believe may connect, please share this with us as a matter of urgency.”
House-to-house enquiries have been carried out and local officers from the Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Team are providing reassurance and crime prevention visits in the area.
Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 101.
