Reigate and Redhill Choral Society's challenge to Surrey
4:50pm Monday 9th September 2013 in News
Reigate and Redhill Choral Society (RRCS) is challenging Surrey to “sing itself fit!”
The ground-breaking choir, founded in 1941, which has embarked on a variety of workshops, festivals, tours and recordings, as well as education initiatives and partnerships, will be throwing open its doors on Tuesday, September 24 - “to those seeking to improve their health and wellbeing.”
A statement from the society said: “RRCS has impacted positively on hundreds of local people of all ages and backgrounds.
“The group is seeking committed and like-minded singers keen to benefit from the range of activities as well as improvements to their health and wellbeing.”
The challenge to Surrey folk to “sing themselves fit” comes after the choir's professional music director, Peter Farrant, revealed that the results of a survey he had carried out showed more than 95% of participants would recommend singing in the choir.
Mr Farrant stated that according to his findings, sizable numbers reported benefiting from improvements to stress reduction and relaxation, posture and breathing.
His survey also found improvements to people's memory, energy, brain function, communication and teamwork.
Networking, team-building, an enhanced sense of community, increased personal confidence and a creative outlet to balance work and life, were also reported, he said.
Mr Farrant has appeared at such concert venues as the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields and St Paul’s Covent Garden.
Promoting new and unusual works alongside mainstream repertoire to great acclaim, he has always stressed the enjoyment and benefits that can be gained from experiencing live performance. RRCS, which is a registered charity, has performed extensively in the United Kingdom and abroad, and regularly engages professional soloists and instrumentalists.
Citing the open rehearsal at the United Reformed Church Hall at Shaws Corner, Redhill, on September 24, Mr Farrant said: "Potential new singers are warmly invited to meet and sing alongside existing members in friendly and enjoyable surroundings."
He added: “Participants not only receive two hours of professional tuition at each session, but a vocal workout proven to benefit mind, body and soul.
“Membership represents unbelievable value.”
The open rehearsal will run from 7.45pm to 9.45pm.
