Work starts on £7 million luxury care home in Horley

Work on a new £7 million luxury care home in Horley got underway this week with a ceremonial shovel of earth being removed from the site on Court Lodge Road.

Bosses from care home group Gracewell Healthcare and construction firm GB Group teamed up to signal the start of work with a ground-breaking ceremony. The new 60-bed home will welcome its first residents early next year, and is part of a growing group of care homes modelled on the design of luxury boutique hotels.

Gracewell Healthcare chief executive Peter Curtis said it would set the standard for elderly care in and around Horley.

The new home will combine boutique hotel interior design with leading-edge dementia and innovative specialist care facilities and services.

Among its features will be a hair and beauty spa, nail bar, a chic cafe, library and WiFi access throughout.

Mr Curtis said: “We are creating a new type of care home - one that mixes luxury interiors and surroundings with the highest levels of care, compassion and integrity.

“We look forward to welcoming the people of Horley into our new home and helping them to care for their loved ones in their old age.

“Our vision is to create homes designed around our residents and their needs. “We provide truly personalised care that focuses on the tiny details of people’s lives – that’s what creates a real sense of home.” Martin Smout, chairman and chief executive of GB Group, said: "GB has extensive experience in building state-of-the-art care homes and we will use this to build a first class home in Horley that will then be purchased and run by Gracewell.”

He said: “We found and purchased the site and will now provide a complete solution, designing and building the home to the highest specification so that its future residents can have a happy and stimulating life in first class surroundings.”

Also at the ground-breaking ceremony were Daniel Kay, director of Gracewell Healthcare, and Glenn Mills, development director of GB Group.
