Mother assaulted in front of children in Horley road rage attack

A mother was attacked by a cyclist in front of her children while she was making the morning school-run in Horley.

The road rage incident happened in Balcombe Road.

The cyclist pulled up alongside the woman's car and then opened the driver's door and pulled her outside.

He then damaged the wing mirror by punching it before cycling off. The woman, aged in her 30s, was left shaken and upset, but was not otherwise hurt.

Surrey Police, who are appealing for witnesses to the assault at about 8.30am on Thursday, March 7, said it took place in front of the woman's three children, as well as other children on their way to school.

The woman was driving a black 4x4.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Errol Chetty from Reigate CID, said: "I believe that there were several witnesses to either the assault or the events leading up to it, and I need these people to make contact and help me find the person responsible.”

Det Con Chetty said: “The offender carried out the assault not only in front of the woman’s three children, but there were other school children in the vicinity at the time.”

He said: “We simply will not tolerate this kind of behaviour and we will do all we can to find the person responsible.” The cyclist was described as white, aged in his mid-40s, about 5ft 10 in tall and skinny, with blonde to brown hair and a goatee-style beard. He was wearing black cycling shorts, a bright yellow vest and a white cycle helmet, and was riding a red and black racer bike with white wheels. Anyone with information on the incident or who feels they can identify the offender by the description given by the victim is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference RB/13/1799.
