Gatwick accountancy firm worker's bid to be shaved bald for Comic Relief

A Gatwick accountancy firm worker will be going under the hairdressers clippers to have all her hair shaved off for Comic Relief.

Janet Figg, who works for BDO at City Place, will be shorn of her locks to raise as much as she can for the charity. Horley's Cuts n Clippers will be carrying out the fundraising headshave in front of her friends and colleagues at work on Friday, March 15.

Janet hopes by going bald she will be able to raise £750.

Janet, 53, said: “I will be 54 years old very soon - probably not the best age to be thinking of going bald.”

She said: “I’ve done various things for charity over the years, including having my hair braided, power walking marathons overnight in my bra, and running 5k round Epsom Downs in 32 degrees, but decided I will do something different this year for Comic Relief.”

Janet continued: “I have asked for £500 to have my hair cut to a no. 1 – pretty drastic – but for at least £750, I will go completely bald.

“ I am actually quite attached to my hair and have been told that I should expect to get ‘nicked’ - and I don’t mean get arrested - during the process, but hey ho, I’m willing to do this to help others.

“After all, my hair will grow back – I hope. “ I’m still trying to decide if I’m brave or completely mad!”

Referring to Cuts n Clippers, she said: “ I can’t believe how generous these ladies are, considering we have never met before.”

Janet, who has three ponies and is a big ballroom dancing fan, said: “ I work for BDO, who relocated from Epsom to Gatwick last year, and they have been very supportive in my challenge.”

So far, Janet has raised about £280.

She said: “There are so many people in the UK and abroad who can be helped by me doing this small thing.”
