Hospice serving East Surrey to hold open days in volunteer recruitment drive

St Catherine's Hospice, which serves the Life area, is currently looking to recruit new volunteers for its vital service, and will be holding an open day at both its sites in Crawley and Caterham.

The hospice will be holding the open day on Tuesday, January 29, from 2pm to 6pm, for people to drop in and find out more about its volunteering opportunities.

The centre is looking for good listeners who can empathise with people who are anticipating a loss or who have suffered a bereavement, whilst giving gentle advice and support.

Full training will be provided, with volunteers needed to commit to about 16 hours of volunteering a month, looking after a couple of clients and attending relevant supervision sessions.

Ideally, people would need to be able to volunteer some evenings and weekends too, and to hold support sessions at the hospice sites in Crawley or Caterham, and also in clients’homes.

For more information call the Patient and Family Support Team on 01293 447343. Alternatively, people can download the Personal Profile and application form from the website at: www.stch.org.uk The closing date for applications is Wednesday, February 6.

The training course will start on Thursday, April 18, and will run for eight weeks on a Thursday morning at the Charis Centre in Crawley. The hospice is also looking for qualified counsellors to volunteer their time. People with the relevant qualifications can contact the hospice on the above number.
