Police seize alcohol from teenagers
Acohol has been seized from underage drinkers in a police crackdown in Reigate town centre.
PC Kate Jarrett and support officer Debbie Nicholls have confiscated dozens of cans and bottles of alcohol from teenagers while out on patrol over the last few weeks.
Details were taken from those stopped and their parents toldwhat had happened.
PC Jarrett said: "It's a concern to us that unsupervised young people are able to get hold of such large quantities of alcohol.
"We're taking this proactive approach as underage drinking can not only have serious consequences for the health and safety of a young person, but can also lead to antisocial behaviour and other public order offences which have a detrimental impact on the community.
"Surrey Police are tackling antisocial behaviour in neighbourhoods, and seizing alcohol from underage drinkers is an important part of this."
Police are warning the crackdown will continue. They are working closely with Surrey County Council to carry out test purchases in stores around the area in a bid to combat the sale of alcohol to those underage.
