Hannah's run raises hundreds

Hannah on finishing the Great North Run

Reigate choral singer Hannah Bestente has raised hundreds of pounds completing the Great North Run in Newcastle.

Hannah, 27, ran the 13.1-mile course in three hours and 23 minutes to raise about £450, which will be split between Reigate and Redhill Choral Society, and Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, in thanks for surgery there which saved her life as a child.

Hannah, who works for The Children's Trust, was taking part in the event for the second time.

Thanking all her sponsors, she said: "The weather was clear blue skies and sunshine, which was great.

"I think running over the Tyne Bridge with so many other people was one of the best moments."

She said: "It was hard work. The hills in the final few miles were the worst as my legs were seizing up by then.

"All the supporters along the route really encouraged us, and the lady handing out chocolate biscuits at mile 11 gave us a much-needed energy boost to get to the end."

She said: "I was really happy to cross the finish line in South Shields.

"It was also a little bit of a relief to know it was over.

"I managed to beat Mickey and Minnie Mouse and a pantomime horse which could have been a bit embarrassing otherwise."
