Carnival pride of two towns
Plans for next year's Redhill and Reigate Carnival are off to a flying start with bands, charities and groups already signed up to take part.
An open meeting into the organisation of the three-day event next June revealed there is already a lot of support.
The carnival, including live music, a parade, a schools drama competition, street theatre and rides and games for children, will begin on Friday, June 12.
Carnival organiser Fran Giles said: "The Saturday gala night line-up is actually full already and we've got about 80% of the people in the parade last year saying they want to take part again."
Many schools have replied about involvement in the event's schools drama competition and some pubs are also keen to participate, with bands including Redhill and Reigate Community Big Band and Surrey Yeomanry.
Mrs. Giles said: "We are in the process of getting our licence from the borough council. It's all stations go and very exciting."
The main push at the moment is for sponsorship.
Mrs. Giles added: "There are still sponsorship opportunities available for all sizes of donations and we would be delighted to talk to any potential sponsors.
"The carnival promises to be a fantastic event for Redhill and Reigate to celebrate the best of both towns."
The carnival was held last year, and before that in 2002.
