League season ends with a defeat
Merstham U13 75
Reigate Priory U13 72-3
Priory's league season ended with a defeat in a familiar fashion, the youngsters putting in a creditable performance but one which failed to produce a total which threatened older and superior opposition.
Again fielding a team exclusively of under-12s in the under- 13 league, Priory elected to bat first on an excellent track.
While the batsmen looked in no great trouble against Merstham's attack, scoring runs was difficult against generally accurate bowling and keen fielding.
Danny Besley showed promise before being bowled, and after ten overs Priory had been restricted to 23-2.
George Goodwin played a careful innings, showing an uncanny knack of finding the fielders with his attacking shots but nevertheless finished with an undefeated 15, sharing an unbroken partnership with Jack Haydon who showed an aggressive intent in his 17 not out. J Deans was the pick of the Merstham bowlers, his three pacey overs producing one wicket for just six runs.
On a good track the Priory total of 72 was never going to test Merstham's accomplished batsmen, and so it proved with opener J Deans finishing on 22 not out, and his partner, J Letts, retiring on 28.
For Priory Danny Besley and Jack Haydon caused one or two early problems but Merstham passed their target in the 14th over with ease.
