Fight goes on for free hospital bus link
Campaigners fighting to bring back a free hospital bus link will be making a presentation to health chiefs next Thursday.
Members of the Save Our Shuttle group intend to present a motion at a Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust board meeting calling for the service to be reinstated.
The bus link serving hospitals at Redhill, Crawley and Horsham was axed last year because health bosses said it was underused and did not justify its £331,000 annual cost.
The link was established after services previously based at Crawley, including maternity, routine operations and children's inpatients, were transferred to Redhill.
The decision to cut it sparked protests from patients, staff and councillors in Crawley.
Just before Christmas the trust agreed to look at the decision again and in the meantime would reimburse the fares of patients and visitors travelling between Crawley bus station and East Surrey Hospital in Redhill on the Metrobus 100 service.
Trust bosses said they were still reviewing and updating their travel plan and a variety of organisations were actively taking part. These include county, borough and district councils as well as staff groups and the trust's patients council.
