Opponents take revenge
South Nutfield 211-7 dec
Old Woking 212-7
This match saw the two teams promoted from Division 2 last year pitted against each other for the first time in the league's top flight.
The away team won the toss and decided to bat on what looked on the surface to be a decent batting track.
It didn't take many balls sailing past his nose from a good length for skipper and opener Chris Walker to realise there was a bit more to the Old Woking wicket than meets the eye.
Peppered with bruises and with a few sore fingers, South's batsmen worked hard for their runs but wickets fells at regular intervals with long spells from opening bowlers Dalton and Stenning.
Andy Gilbert made a decent contribution of 35 but it was Rob Brown that made the best of dubious wicket by notching up 84 before being run out toward the end of the innings.
That left South Nutfield with a total of 214-7 off 46 overs which looked like a competitive score under the circumstances.
The away team hoped that the wicket would continue to play its tricks for their opponents but it seemed like a different pitch as Old Woking's openers wasted no time going after the target.
Patel fell after a quick fire 36 and skipper Prisco batted well for his 61. The away team were down to nine fielders at some points due to injury and this didn't help their attempt to protect their total.
Old Woking took advantage of the gaps to continue in an attacking vein throughout. Ed Bartlett bowled well and ended with figures of 4-80 from a long spell but it was not enough to stop Old Woking taking revenge for being pipped to last year's Div 2 title.
Senior pro A Collin hit an unbeaten 37 to guide the home team to victory with three balls to spare.
