1,000 people see town centre proposals
A display on proposals for the future of Redhill drew about 1,000 people to The Belfry shopping
centre.
The two-day exhibition, which was part of the town's master plan consultation, was held to
present proposals in their early stages, with council officials on hand to answer questions.
The large turn-out made the
display the most effective consultation so far.
A spokeswoman for Reigate and Banstead Borough Council said: "From the master planners' perspective, this was the most effective
consultation undertaken. A lot of interest was paid and numerous comments made."
Among ideas put forward was the need for a leisure complex to include a cinema, bowling alley and other attractions. This supported comments that Redhill needed more youth facilities.
Another suggestion was for an arts centre with a coffee bar to act as a focal point in the town centre.
There was backing for more shopping facilities and parking in the master plan proposals, and increased police patrols of the town centre and surrounding areas were also called for.

I'm sure that many local amateur choral/orchestral/dr
amatic societies would be devastated if there was no longer any venue for their productions within the borough. It would be a poor reflection on our Council if we were forced to go outside the Borough to stage events (eg. to Crawley or Dorking).
By all means give the youngsters a bowling alley or a cinema, but please do not do this at the expense of the theatre!
