From Horley to Krakow in a banger

FOUR friends from Horley are embarking on a madcap adventure to Poland in a clapped-out banger.

Jo Backhouse, Andrew Barnet, Rupert and Charlotte Coler are taking part in the Ramshackle Rally, a low-budget version of the Cannonball Run, when they will drive over 1,000 miles in a Rover 400 which cost them under £100.

Last year Jo, a teacher, took part in the Valencia run, also organised by the Ramshackle Rally, in a Renault 5 disguised as a furry dog - complete with wagging tail.

This year the team are planning to dress their car up to look like a skunk and they are using the opportunity to raise money for St Catherine's Hospice.

Jo said: "Well, all I can say is that we are defiantly deluded. This year Andy Rupert, Charlotte and I have decided to go a step further and compete in the rally to Krakow - much further and far scarier.

"I'm sure you're confident we'll raise loads of money for our charity especially with our go-faster fur and our badly broken Rover - which will soon be a giant skunk - but we can't leave it to chance so we're going to need all the help we can get."
