Two fires destroy sheds within hours
FIREFIGHTERS were called to tackle two shed fires in the space of two hours yesterday.
Residents in Haroldslea Drive, Horley, raised the alarm at 3.20pm after smoke was seen pouring from the roof of a house.
When crews arrived they discovered a shed attached to the house was well alight.
Firefighters managed to contain the blaze but the house next door was severely damaged by the heat.
Windows in the neighbouring property were cracked, the gutter melted and the front door buckled as a result of the blaze.
Crews used heat sensor equipment to check material had not ignited in the roof space of either property.
The shed, which contained garden machinery, was completely destroyed.
The second blaze was in woodland just off Smallfied Road, Horley, at 5.15pm.
A derelict shed which was alight was so far away from the road, two crews had to connect their hose reels to reach the blaze.
The cause of both fires is under investigation.
