Town tribute to the Territorials
Soldiers march through Reigate
Soldiers march through Reigate

HUNDREDS of people lined the streets of Reigate on Saturday to see Territorial soldiers march through the town.

The parade was held to mark the 100th anniversary of the Territorial Army and to honour the borough's troops.

Soldiers from 2 Field Troop 579 Field Squadron, based in Reigate, and 150 Recovery Company Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, based in Redhill, were led by the TS Ark Royal Reigate Sea Cadet band.

Many of those marching had served in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Residents of all ages waving union flags lined the route from the town hall, along Church Street, High Street and London Road.

After the parade the troops attended a reception hosted by borough mayor Dorothy Ross-Tomlin.

Capt Eric Muir, of 150 Recovery Company, said: "It was fantastic - it was a cracking day. The reception was very nice and during the ceremony the mayor presented each of the TA members with a beautiful engraved tankard. That was very well received and was greatly appreciated by everyone."

A collection by the Sea, Army and Air Cadets for Help For Heroes, a charity which helps people wounded in conflict, raised £1,337.
