A SHOW celebrating great songs spanning 52 years is set to take the stage in Rhyl next month.

Still treading the boards after all these years, the criminally under-appreciated Raymond Froggatt will bring more than five decades of songwriting talent to the Pavilion on Sunday, July 15.

Froggie, as he is affectionately known by fans, began performing in the early 1960s before meeting up with Lou Clark, Len Ablethorpe and H Cain to form a band in 1964.

Their formation as the Raymond Froggat band came at a time in Birmingham filled with talented musicians with the same idea, including Roy Wood, Jeff Lynne, Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Bev Bevan, Carl Wayne, Trevor Burton, Steve Gibbons, Dave Pegg, and Robert Plant.

Froggatt and his band gigged around England and France for a few years before being signed by Polydor Records in 1967.

That was when Froggat wrote his first hit, followed by many more hits home and abroad. Over the years, there are not many artists he has not written for or recorded with, including the legendary Isaac Hayes and even Sir Elton John.

Despite mixing in the highest circles of pop and rock royalty, chart success has always eluded The Raymond Froggatt band whose music may be more recognisable from covers of their music that broke the top 10.

His songs have been covered by Leapy Lee, Daniel O’Donnell, Dominic Kirwan and Gladys Knight. The Dave Clark Five had a number seven hit with Froggatt’s The Red Balloon in 1968 – the original version of the song reached number three in the Netherlands – with another song, Big Ship, reaching number eight in 1969 for Sir Cliff Richard.

Yet over the years, Froggie has amassed a dedicated fan base and continues to sell out venues throughout the UK in a career that has seen the singer-songwriter play The Ice Drome in Tulsa USA and Wembley Arena.

Fans continue to be mesmerised by Froggie’s committing his life to music, telling stories through his songs that are move audiences to laughter and tears, with an intensity of guaranteed to touch the hearts of fans new and old.

This magical evening will showcase the talent of this hard working, hidden gem which is sure to mesmerise and delight.

Raymond Froggatt will be in concert at the Rhyl Pavilion on Sunday, July 15 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £15 and are available from rhylpavilion.co.uk or by calling 01745 330000.
