Sex and the City: The Movie (15) *** - Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Chris Noth.
IT'S enjoyed an almost unprecedented amount of hype in recent weeks.
The four stars of Sex and the City have jammed our TV screens and the airways, as well as filling more than their fair share of column inches, with the usual inanity that come with film promotion work.
Still they haven't done a bad job because people are talking non-stop about it.
Now that its release is finally upon us, is it worthy of all the hype.
The answer is yes and no.

It should more than satisfy its legion of loyal fans, which is probably the aim, but as a film in its own right, it really doesnÕt stand up to serious scrutiny.
We catch up with the girls as the years have rolled by.
Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is still with Big (Chris Noth) dreaming of a big wedding and happy ending to their relationship.
PR boss Samantha (Kim Cattrall) is on the West Coast living with her client and other half Smith (Jason Lewis).
Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) is married to Steve (David Eigenberg) and struggling to find some domestic bliss in Brooklyn.
And finally Charlotte (Kristin Davis) is happily married to Harry (Evan Handler) as they joyously raise their adopted Chinese child.
The best bit of the film is the opening in which we catch up with the foursome.
But as the film develops, it looses its way as unexpected events change their lives.
It may have been a smart, sexy and witty series but its transition to the big screen is a difficult one.
Sex and the City: The Movie is not a bad film. It's just not a very good one either.
