Be Kind Rewind (12A) *** - Jack Black, Mos Def, Danny Glover and Mia Farrow.
A GOOD natured and gently humorous film, Be Kind Rewind has enough charm to make it a winner despite some flaws.
It is the central characters of Jack Black and Mos Def who leave the film down with less than rounded performances.
When the owner of the eponymous Be Kind Rewind video shop (Danny Glover) leaves Mike (Mos Def) in charge of the store for a short while, disaster predictably ensues.
Mike's manic friend Jerry (Jack Black) manages to erase the store's entire stock of tapes which leaves the hapless pair with the mammoth task of remaking themselves a host of blockbuster movies in the hope of staying in business.
It is a nice idea and cue some genuinely funny send-ups of popular movies of recent times such as Ghostbusters, Robocop, Driving Miss Daisy and Rush Hour.

There is some good mileage in all this and plenty of laughs but ultimately it all starts getting a bit samey.
Thrown into the mix are evil film executives turning up and the threat of the neighbourhood disappearing.
But when it is on form, Be Kind Rewind is good value.
