DUE to Julie Christie's leading actress Oscar nomination, Away From Her has been re-released almost a year after it was first shown in the cinema.
She gives an outstanding performance as a woman declining at the hands Alzheimer's disease in this excellent film from writer-director Sarah Polley.
At its heart, the film is about love and how it is tested by time.
Christie plays Fiona, a woman in her 60s, whose life and memories are being ravaged by her disease.
As she deteriorates, Fiona persuades her husband Grant (Gordon Pinsent) that she would be better off in a care home.
But almost as soon as she arrives, she becomes close to fellow patient Aubrey (Michael Murphy).

A confused Grant believes Fiona may be punishing him for a past indiscretion.
Away From Her is a hybrid of humour and melancholy that is deftly handled by Polley who never let's things get out of hand in hilarity or weightiness.
Christie stands out but Pinsent, Murphy and Olympia Dukakis, as Aubrey's witty and world-weary wife, are all superb in this great film that has been thankfully plucked from obscurity.
