The Bucket List

WHAT seemed like a great idea at the time unfortunately doesn't translate very well to the big screen despite being propped up by the presence of two of the most likeable and watchable heavyweight actors around.

It is only their star quality that saves this from being a complete dog of a film.

A comedy about two elderly dying cancer patients going on a road trip in a buddy movie starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman sounds okay.

Then add in more than capable director Rob Reiner and we look like we are on to a safe bet.

But as the more experienced of us know, there's no such thing. It all ends up being rather inane and a big let down.

Our duo travel the world ticking items off a list of things they've always wanted to do before they both kick the bucket (as in the title - get it?).

How convenient that one of them, Edward Cole (Nicholson), happens to be a billionaire.

Therefore there's almost nothing that either man cannot do.

While entrepreneur Cole has enjoyed a full and wild life, married four times, his companion, Freeman's Carter Chambers, was forced to give up his ambition of becoming an academic to provide for his family.

The pair set off on a series of wacky adventures that takes in the Great Wall of China, Taj Mahal, Pyramids and the Himalayas, as well as motor racing and sky-diving.
