A REAL missed opportunity, Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium veers from being enchanting, warm and thoroughly enjoyable to a film that's so strange, it is positively off-putting.
It probably has just enough charm to win the day but it also really hard work.
The story starts when Mr Magorium (Dustin Hoffman) makes up his mind that the time has come to leave his magical toy shop in the hands of his faithful assistant Mahoney (Natalie Portman).
But the only flaw in the plan is that the young and unfulfilled Mahoney isn?t quite so sure she has just what it takes to run the Wonder Emporium, the ultimate toy store.
It is a story that has parallels with Wilky Wonka and is almost as weird as Tim Burton?s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie.

Writer/director Zach Helm shows some great touches and it is a great looking film.
Hoffman and Portman both do well in their roles as do Zach Mills as lonely child Eric and Jason Bateman as Henry the stereotypically dour accountant.
