SIR - How many of the 650 cases reported in "Number's up for cheats" (T&A, September 28) turned out to be correct?

If there were 20 convictions per month from January to September then it was 180, so 470, or more than 72 per cent were not substantiated and, perhaps, reported by people with a grudge.

This is the danger of Hitler-type informants. Benefit frauds have to be prevented but the current system needs to be carefully monitored and informants giving wrong information dealt with adequately.
