NEW-SIGNING Scott McGleish says he's happy to fight for his place alongside sharpshooters Jermaine Easter and Tommy Mooney.

The £80,000 capture from Northampton has dropped down a division and been given no guarantees of a place but he insists that doesn't worry him.

Manager Paul Lambert played all three up front in Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Stockport but the experiment lasted just 45 minutes before he changed his mind at half time taking off Easter and going with two up top.

Now it remains to be seen who will spearhead the attack at Wrexham today.

But McGleish, who has scored 13 times for League One Northampton this season, is up for the fight.

He said: "I'm a self-believer. I'm confident I will get my place in the side and once I get it I then know it is down to me to keep it.

"The manager played all three of us last week, next week it could be one of us left out. It is healthy competition but if we get the end game and win promotion then we will all be happy.

"If you've got three players scoring goals you've always got a chance. Jermaine is on 20 already and Tommy Mooney is always a 15 goal a season man so now we have three players who can potentially get 20 goals each then you've got a great chance of success.

"I am just hoping that I can bring something to the table."

McGleish's capture was a major surprise as Wanderers beat League One side Millwall to the 32-year-old's signature and former Wycombe and Cobblers boss John Gorman helped oil the wheels of the move.

McGleish said: "I spoke to John about it and he told me that the club would be right for me and told me it would be a good move for me.

"I was concerned at stepping down a division but I feel this club than can go up automatically."

But he admits it was a wrench to leave Northampton.

He said: "I was put on the transfer list at Northampton just before Christmas.

"I was put on the list because I hadn't scored enough goals. The goals were not coming from anywhere so it's hard to just blame forwards. All three strikers were put on the list. I was disappointed I had been there two and half years and enjoyed it.

"I was sad to go but this looks like a good club to join and it is something I want to be a part of."
