THE first print competition got off to a good start with many entries from new members.

Cock Pheasant by Andrew Lloyd was a brilliant study of this bird.

Its reddish brown feathers were shown in fine detail and contrasted well against a dark green background.

The Lunge was another work by Andrew Lloyd.

This was a black and white head and shoulders portrait of a lunging fencer.

It had a very sinister effect reminiscent of horror film The Fly.

In the advanced section, Solitary Snack by Leslie Rees looked at a figure eating a sandwich.

At a recent meeting, various members showed examples of work taken during the summer months.

Julie Meech showed two unusual sunsets taken on a Hasleblad panoramic camera.

Instead of the more usual reds, oranges and yellows, these shots emphasised the subtle range of blues and greens.

Caroline Black showed some of her macro work.

Of particular interest was a shot of seed and pods found on the jungle floor in Peru and re-arranged to form an interesting pattern.

Elmer Cossey showed pictures of dancers in various poses.

Although still, the sense of movement was beautifully conveyed.

David Wood showed an unusual shot of the swimming pool at the RAC headquarters in London.

The ornate ceiling was reflected in the smooth surface of the pool.

Apparently, in order to take this photograph it was necessary to wear a jacket and tie.

The society meets on Wednesdays at Clockhouse Methodist Church Hall.
