THE passenger in a car whose window was put in by stone-throwing youngsters hopped out and collared the boys responsible.

Police arrived on the scene soon afterwards and spoke to a 13-year-old and a ten-year-old who live in the area.

Susie Streeton suffered cuts to her neck and hands after she was showered with glass as her partner, Richard Humphrey, drove along Silk Mills Road, on the outskirts of Taunton.

She also visited her doctors the following day with a swollen rib cage and bruising caused when Mr Humphrey suddenly braked.

"I was in the passenger seat and heard what sounded like a gunshot and saw glass smashing everywhere," said Miss Streeton, aged 22, who manages a convenience store in Wiveliscombe.

"Richard did an emergency stop and I jumped out and ran after the boys, staying with them until the police arrived."

She added: "If there had been a baby or elderly person in the car, they could well have ended up in hospital and maybe worse.

"There could have been a very serious accident - we had to stop suddenly, but fortunately there weren't any other cars involved."

Police have confirmed that they attended after the incident at about 6.30pm last Thursday.

Last week, the County Gazette reported how a rock shattered a coach window as the vehicle was being driven past the park on Staplegrove Road, a few hundred metres from the latest incident.

Andrew Cridland, who did not see anyone, had just dropped off a group of schoolchildren from his 53-seater coach.
