Bob Brimson today insisted his Eastbourne Eagles cannot wait to make up for their losing home start.

Eagles went down 50-43 to a strong Coventry side in the year's first Elite League meeting at Arlington.

They face an equally tough double-header at the weekend when they visit league leaders Reading on Friday before staging the return meeting on Saturday.

Eagles promoter Brimson admitted he was disappointed to suffer home defeat but insists supporters should not be despondent.

He said: "We picked a bad night to have a bad night on Saturday.

"We were beaten fair and square by a better team. There was nothing wrong with the preparation, nothing wrong with the track. But it went away from us halfway through the meeting."

Brimson felt the fast pace of the meeting, due to concerns about the weather, meant Eagles did not get a chance to find the right mechanical setups when they realised they were struggling He added: "Getting beaten at home is not good enough but my lot can't wait until Friday now.

"They want to show they are a better team than you saw at home to Coventry.

"Their reaction was first rate and they believe they can go to Reading and win."

Eagles continue to weigh up making changes to the rider order ahead of their trip to Smallmead.

Brimson admitted: "We currently have at least three riders who cannot work out what they are doing wrong. They are a lot better than that."

Maximum man Nicki Pedersen, who won five races out of five on Saturday, is in Poland this week and was due to ride a pre-season match for Rzeszow against Tarnow last night.

He said: "I'll be testing my Grand Prix stuff as well during the week, different engines, setups and stuff. I'm really looking forward to it."
