ROADS policing units will be helped dealing with Britain's 30 million international visitors and increasing foreign vehicle activity by a new phrase book designed and made in Herefordshire.
Aimed at police traffic officers who may meet foreigners, the Kingsland-created book uses a mixture of pictograms and useful phrases in 39 languages.
Officers need not be able to speak the language, they simply point at the relevant phrase or picture.
Police forces that have bought the book include Suffolk, Gloucestershire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.
The number of foreign-registered vehicles travelling to the UK has increased more than three times over the last 10 years, according to the Department for Transport. Many are from the new or soon-to-be-admitted EU members states and activity is concentrated in those police areas with ports.
Creator Peter Morgan (left), CommsFactory proprietor, said: "With numbers of foreign vehicles increasing on Britain's roads police officers are more likely to meet foreign speakers. This phrase book is a useful aide for any police officer to help break the language barrier.
"I've tried to keep the product local by using local designers and printers and dispatching orders from the post office in the village shop. It saves me time, money and the hassle-factor by sourcing everything on my doorstep."
