THREE historic buildings in Monmouthshire will be restored after being selected to receive a share of almost £650,000 in Assembly grant aid.
Great Trerhew Barn at Monmouth, Lydart Farm, and the United Reformed Church in Castle Street, Abergavenny have been awarded grants of £70,000, £7,500 and £5,200 respectively for essential repairs and restoration work.
Great Trerhew Barn in Monmouth is a rare surviving example of a complex, multi-purpose agricultural building virtually unchanged since the 17th Century. A £70,000 grant has been offered towards roof and stonework repairs.
Lydart Farm retains much traditional character, notably late 16th Century decorative plasterwork, which will be restored with the help of a £7,500 grant.
Abergavenny United Reformed Church, built in 1792 and extensively remodelled in 1839, will undergo a programme of external repairs part-funded by a grant of £5,200.
The grants were recommended by the Historic Buildings Advisory Council for Wales.
