WEA THE annual meeting of the Colchester branch of the Workers' Educational Association (WEA), took place on March 3, and the following were elected: Chairman, David Parr; vice chairman, Don Scott; secretary, Jean Roberts; assistant secretary, Julia Newhouse; treasurer, Elizabeth Jory; editor, Ray Hedley; booking secretary, Philip Burnford; members Susan Baines, Jane Humbles, Lesley Sams and Brian West.
Classes have now finished for the term, but will recommence in September and the brochure will be released in late June.
Luncheon Club THE president, Mrs Lucette Smith welcomed members and many guests to the Colchester and District Ladies Luncheon Club held at the George Hotel, Colchester High Street. Following lunch the guest speaker was Mr David Battie from the BBC programme Antiques Road Show. He gave a fascinating insight into how the programme evolved from radio to television and his experiences along the way.
The next meeting is the annuaol meeting when members are invited to air their views and queries.
Colchester Photographic Society WE meet on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm in Christ Church, Ireton Road, Colchester. This week we held our annual Three on a Theme competition for prints and slides which was judged by Harold Mousley from Bradfield. The overall winner was Roy Essery with a set of three colour prints depicting London's Docklands. The best set of monochrome prints, of a wheelchair tennis match, was by Rodney Woods and the best set of colour slides of tulips, was by Steve Robinson.
On Tuesday, we have a slide presentation entitled Tanzanian Safari by Ron Tear from Loughton.
