Wyke 70 Bradford Dudley Hill 0

In the Bradford ARL Jack Senior Memorial Cup Wyke demolished Dudley Hill in an awesome display.

A late switch from the Recreation Ground to Elmsley's Rec did not hinder the focus of the black and whites, who came out firing from the first minute.

Things started badly even before the whistle had blown for Dudley Hill when three of their number were taken to bolster the first-team effort against Brighouse Rangers.

And it didn't get any better when after just two minutes, following a Hill knock-on, forward James Barraclough romped in at the corner.

Two minutes later it was the turn of burly Wyke winger Sean Godfrey to get in on the act when he broke a tackle close to his own line and promptly careered down field to crash over.

Winger James Wild crossed on eight minutes and a great break by second-row Paul Coates found loose forward Ady Leek in support and he outpaced the Hill defence to make it 16-0. Craig Hillam finally found his kicking boots and sent over a towering touch-line kick to edge Wyke further in front 18-0.

At this point Hill gained themselves their first real stint of possession and were unlucky not to score when prop Ryan McConnell was held just short by some tremendous defence.

At the mid-way point Wyke clicked back into gear when a break by the lively Leek saw him fire a cut-out pass that hit Godfrey, who found a clear route to the line. Hillam tagged on the two-pointer and with an hour still to play Wyke were effectively home and dry at 24-0.

Hill continued to fight but with a number of youngsters in the side and no substitutes to call on it was always going to be an uphill battle.

Wild was next to dummy his way over in the corner and the half ended as it had begun as Leek rampaged through Hill's would-be tacklers before handing off the full back to pick up his second try.

The misery continued for Hill after the break, with first Coates sauntering under the posts and then, after a fine move, scrum half Andy Leek found himself clear for a four-pointer.

If Hill player-coach Chris Walsh thought the second half couldn't get any worse he was sadly mistaken as they were quickly reduced to 11 men through injury.

First however they had to endure further suffering as first Alan Binns scored out wide and then hooker Ian Watkinson broke straight up the middle to cross the whitewash.

With Wild taking over kicking duties and successfully converting both Wyke were 60 points ahead. Andy Leek helped himself to another try and winger Paul Woodhead delivered the final blow as he romped in at the corner to complete the 70-0 demolition.

There was still 15 minutes remaining but referee Mr Nagy must have recalled those immortal words within boxing circles "and with the opponent not in a position to defend themselves" he stopped the contest.
