An investigation has been launched after a Blackpool schoolboy died in a lunchtime accident at his school yesterday.
Brandon Worrell, 14, is said to have been running around a pole which holds up a canopy in the playground at Palatine Community Sports College, St Annes Road, before letting go and falling into a bench.
Blackpool Council is to investigate. A spokesman said: "Sadly the council confirms that Brandon Worrell, a 14 year old pupil at Palatine High School, has died following a tragic accident at lunchtime on Monday.
"No other pupils were involved when Brandon very sadly sustained a fatal head injury.
"He passed away later in the afternoon at Victoria Hospital and our sympathy and thoughts are with family and friends at this very sad time.
"We are working closely with the school community particularly classmates.
"Over the next week our health and safety officers will be reviewing what exactly happened."
