THREE people had an "amazing" escape after the car they were travelling in ended up on its roof following a road accident.

Kidderminster fire crews arrived at the scene, on the A451, near Five Ways junction, at 11.30pm, yesterday, discovering a Renault Clio overturned on the road with nobody inside.

Phil Berry, fire station watch manager, said: "It was quite a mangled wreck but the people were all out, amazingly, considering it was on its roof.

"There was a lot of confusion when we got there because only two of the vehicle's occupants could be found so we helped police search the area with thermal imaging equipment, but the third person was later found."

Police officers closed the road in both directions, at the junction of Sugar Loaf Lane, later reopening it to traffic with three men taken to hospital.

The 20-year-old driver, from Brierley Hill, suffered cuts and bruises with minor injuries to his chest and stomach and is being treated at Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley, where his condition is stable.

Two passengers in the car, both men in their 20s from Stourbridge, were taken to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital where they were treated for bruises and later discharged.

Witnesses or people who saw the accident should contact Kidderminster Police on 08457 444888.
