Hob Green SNAG was set up in September 2005. A group of concerned and committed staff, includuing our cook, teachers, a classroom assistant, lunchtime supervisors and learning mentor felt strongly that food and healthy eating was an issue that needed to be addressed.

Julie Turner, from Health Promoting Schools, came to the first meeting to provide help and guidance. We used the 'Food in Schools' toolkit as a framework, initially carrying out a food audit to give us a baseline from which to work. From this we developed a food policy and action plan which we are in the process of implementing. We have been involved in the following:

  • KS1 - No longer bring in crisps/sweets
  • KS1 - Toast on sale in the morning
  • Health Living Focus WEek - Lots of activities, visitors, special assemblies etc.
  • Painted the dinning hall
  • Large visible menu
  • Tablecloths at lunchtime
  • Spuddy Buddy
  • Allotment
  • Food Questionnaires

The members of the SNAG are continuing to implement their action plan and are looking forward to making life at Hob Green healthier for children and staff.
