A 59-year-old London Underground train driver died on Tuesday after falling ill as he drove a train on the Northern Line between Woodside Park and Totteridge & Whetstone.
Shortly after 5pm, as the train was travelling northbound, the driver, who has not been named, activated the emergency alarm in his cab, bringing the train to a halt. A train with no passengers on board was dispatched from High Barnet station to see what had happened.
Drawing alongside the northbound train, an Underground member of staff stepped into the cab of the stricken driver, who had collapsed, before driving the train to Totteridge & Whetstone so the sick driver could be treated.
At 5.30pm, two paramedics and two ambulance crews attempted to revive the man, and he was taken by ambulance to Barnet Hospital where he died.
Transport for London (TfL) is not releasing details about how he died.
Northern Line services in both directions were disrupted with no service between Finchley Central and High Barnet between 5.20pm and 6.20pm.
A TfL spokesman said: "We are deeply saddened by the death of one of our colleagues and our thoughts are with his family and friends at the present time."
