THERE was no escaping Red Nose Day on Friday.

Schools throughout the area joined in the fundraising for those in need in Africa and at home while numerous events took place in offices, shops and other business premises in the area.

Few people dived into a bath of baked beans, but many devised new and novel ways of raising money be it on their own or in groups.

Just how much was raised in the area is not clear but many cheques were being written at the end of the day and all were three figures or more.

Packet photographers were out and about during the day to see what antics people were up to and what lengths they went to boost funds.

Falmouth Hospital was transformed on Friday into a Wonderland to raise money for Red Nose Day.

Patients and staff were sponsored to dress as their favourite fairy tale character and fairy cakes were sold. Staff and patients got involved and welcomed the opportunity to try and make a difference.

Falmouth School raised almost £1400 from a variety of fund raising events including a Slave Auction, a 60s/70s non-uniform day, a raffle and a teachers leg waxing challenge. Great fun was had by all while getting across the charitable message.

Staff at Specsavers in Falmouth took a no-pain, no-gain attitude to fundraising for Comic Relief on Friday.

Specsavers store director, Paul McGrane, had a full leg-wax inside the store, in a courageous bid to raise money for the charity.

Paul asked for minimum donations of £4 per strip of wax on his legs. Says Paul: "Having been here for a year, I know there will be no shortage of people waiting to literally come and tear a strip off me!' The store also donated all proceeds from spectacle repairs carried out in the store that day to Comic Relief.
