A CHILDREN'S charity which wanted to extend its Bawdrip headquarters has been given permission to do so by Sedgemoor District Council following a site visit.
The British Institute For Brain Injured Children submitted plans to build on the north and south sides of its main building, create a respite care centre, and put up four bungalows for families using the facility.
But on February 13 the Development Control Committee deferred making a decision on the scheme until it had looked at the potential site.
On Tuesday (March 13) members gave the go-ahead to the project which will see buildings on the Polden Ridge demolished to make way for the new constructions.
Charity chief executive Julie Spencer-Cingoz told the Mercury: "It is fantastic news, we have been waiting for this point in time for a couple of years.
"We will now have to launch a capital build campaign to fund it.
"Longer term this should mean more appropriate facilities for families coming to BIBIC."
