CHILDREN, teachers and parents donned their waterproofs and got stuck in during a tree-planting session at Welland Primary School.
Sixty-five trees were planted on land next to the school on Wednesday, as part of a Forest Schools project.
The trees will screen off a patch of land that will be transformed into an outdoor area, to help children learn about and enjoy the natural environment.
The planting exercise was the first stage of the project, which the school took up in October.
Class 1 teacher Laura Isaac said: "The children seemed to really enjoy the planting and even parents got involved too.
"The trees were a variety of species, including ones that can be used to demonstrate wood crafts and whittling, like willow."
She said the outdoor area would eventually include wooden seating and a shelter, and children would be given bug catchers and nature books.
"It's a great project, which gives children the opportunity of being outdoors," she said.
"We'll be learning about all the different plant species and animals."
