POLICE have dropped their investigation into an alleged sex attack on a female woman bus driver.

Detectives no longer believe a sexual offence was committed on board the number 3 Solent Blue Line bus in Hedge End.

A police spokeswoman said today: "Police investigating a report of a serious sexual assault on a bus driver in Hedge End on Sunday February 4 are no longer treating this as a criminal offence.

"A 42 year-old woman from the Southampton area has been arrested and release on bail. A file of evidence is being submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service."

The bus was in the Oaklands estate in Hedge End at the time of the alleged attack and the driver had turned off the internal lights before starting the drive back to the Solent Blue Line depot in Eastleigh.

Police forensic teams had carried out a search of the double decker bus which was not equipped with a CCTV camera.
