A radio link-up scheme is being revived to help the fight against town centre crime.
Town Link has been re-launched for traders in Dovercourt and is expected to be running again by the end of this week.
The scheme, which provides a radio connection between all shops and the police, has dwindled in recent years after the retirement of former Sgt Peter Woods.
But new impetus from the police and shopkeepers meant the scheme was keenly supported at yesterday's re-launch at the Park Pavilion.
Sgt Darren Deex said: "It's a positive step forward after all the negative aspects we've seen with criminal damage and thefts in the town.
"This means we'll be able to get officers to the scene much quicker and so collect evidence and make detections that much quicker as well."
