SCOUT HUT: I don't know the rights and wrongs of the Scout hut situation but it seems to be an ongoing saga. I used to live in Eden Close and was a member of the Cubs when this hall was built. Cubs and Scouts used to be based in the pavilion at Baldwyns Park. When it was built, it had a lot more land.Later a big chunk was taken to extend Eden Road so houses had proper access. There is only 70 or 80 per cent of the original land left.I doubt the 10 or so houses at the end of Eden Road could have been built without this land. It seems this has been forgotten.

HAPPY MEMORIES: I was very interested to read your article on the Rivoli Ballroom (Famous Guests At Old Ballroom, News Shopper, February 14). I was born in Crofton Park in 1933 and lived there for many years.Crofton Park Picture Palace was known as the Rivoli Cinema during the Second World War. A man called Mr Lockwood owned it, in addition to Astoria Cinemas in Forest Hill and Ritzy Cinema at Brockley Cross. My mother worked for him as an usherette during the Second World War and for a few years after. Your article brought back happy memories for me.

NEW VISION: Rusty barbed wire, derelict yards, locked-up shops which should have been demolished at least 30 years ago. Not Beirut, but Crayford. What a dump. The town hall building is a disgrace and hasn't had a facelift since Dad's Army left there in 1945. Pull the whole lot down and start again. Let's have some designers with vision. Surely there is someone in the planning department with the bottle? With regards to finance, I am sure Sainsbury's supermarket would fund the scheme if they let it double the size of the store.

INEFFECTIVE TACTICS: In reply to B Leman (The Case Against Ruthless' Wardens, News Shopper, February 14). They should take their own advice that "the public should blame the council for applying certain parking restrictions" because they are responsible for enforcement. Calling traffic wardens rude names and tedious whinges in newspapers has always been ineffective, if not counter-productive.
