TEACHERS from Cyprus, Denmark and Germany are to visit the area this week.

Staff from Grangetown's Caedmon Primary School, near Middlesbrough, will give their guests a taste of local school life as well as a guide to the region's heritage sites.

The teachers from Nicosia, Aarhus, Hamburg and Stanley, in County Durham, are linked with Caedmon in a school partnership project.

They will be formally welcomed to the borough by the mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Councillor Mary Ovens, at Eston Town Hall, on Thursday, before taking part in a host of activities.

The Caedmon school choir, country dancing troupe and samba band will provide its own welcome during an assembly later in the day, along with presentations of a basket of gifts, including jam, cheese and beer, a book and a DVD of Grangetown history.

The group will visit Sacred Heart RC Specialist Science College, in Redcar, a modern building that is part of the council's £155m private finance initiative project.

Caedmon's international school co-ordinator, Simon Feasey, said: "Our partnership goal is to celebrate cultural diversity and tradition. Grangetown has a fascinating and unique story to tell."
