A WOOTTON Bassett couple want to thank a true knight of the road.

Monday may have been World Kindness Day, but Norman and Celia Tydeman are full of praise for a mystery man who helped them out last Friday lunchtime.

Norman was on his way to pick up Celia from a shopping trip in Swindon when his car broke down at the Mannington Roundabout.

Celia, 79, said: "I just cannot explain how kind this man was.

"He went out of his way again and again to help us.

"First of all a man got out of his car and helped push the car to the side of the road. Then a second man got out of his van and asked if he could help.

"My husband was quite flustered so he insisted on taking him to pick me up."

The chivalrous motorist drove Norman to the town centre to pick up Celia, and then returned both of them to the car.

"He then went even further and drove me home to Bassett, but not before he had left his mobile with my husband," said Celia.

Norman waited for the AA with the man's mobile, and it was only when they arrived to fix the car that the man left.

Celia said: "Words cannot explain how grateful we are to this man.

"He must have been on duty because we heard him calling to say that he would be running late.

"He said it was something he had to do, and it was heart-warming to think there are people on the road who will help out."

The Tydemans would like to thank the man who did so much for them.

Celia said: "I didn't manage to get his name or his number, because we were worried by what happened.

"I couldn't even describe him, although he was quite young."
