A POPULAR postman retired after 30 years service with the post office in Bromsgrove. George Prosser, of Stratford Road, started delivering letters in 1951 after serving in the RAF. He hoped his retirement would give him time to pursue his hobbies of fishing and chrysanthemum growing. At a farewell presentation Mr Prosser was presented with a certificate and a cassette recorder by the post office and an electric drill by his workmates from the sorting office.

BROMSGROVE firemen enjoyed a four-day trip to Gronau as guests of the German fire brigade during their centenary celebrations. They took with them a wooden plaque depicting the brigade's crest from Bromsgrove's chief officer, and in return received from the Gronau chief fire officer a fire pewter plaque illustrating the German town as it was in 1970.

DODFORD'S annual show, organised jointly by the village gardening club and the WI, attracted a whole host of splendid entries. The flowers and fruit and vegetable sections received high praise from the judge Mr JT Flack. Cup winners included Mr Mills for best fruit and vegetables, Mr Rea for the best flowers, Mrs Scott for best flower arrangements and Mrs Musgrave for best cookery.

BROMSGROVE Rovers battled back from being two goals down in 20 minutes to beat Barry Town 3-2, in one of the most dramatic recoveries ever seen at the Victoria Ground. Rovers showed great belief and character as two penalties from Shaun O'Meara and a far post header from Kevin Truswell won them the game. The win took them to six matches unbeaten.
